Adax Smart Heating · Wi-Fi Thermostats

The Gen 3 Adax Wi-Fi thermostat, explained.

There are now three generations of Adax Wi-Fi control, and we get asked about them every week. Here is the plain-English guide: what the new WT3 does, how it differs from the thermostats that came before it, and what Matter will mean for your heating.

01Three Generations At A Glance

Gen 1 to Gen 3, dated.

If a customer asks which one they have, or what changed and when, this is the whole story in one table.

GenerationYearAdax platformWhat it introduced
Generation 12016First-gen Wi-FiThe first Adax heaters you could control from your phone: remote on and off, temperature and scheduling over Wi-Fi through the app.
Generation 22020WT2Direct integration with the major smart home platforms, including Google Home and Amazon Alexa, plus voice control.
Generation 32025WT3Faster hardware, lower power use, hardware-level cybersecurity, a wider list of supported platforms, and Matter compatibility on the way.
Good to know: the generation refers to the Wi-Fi control platform inside the heater, not the heater itself. An older Adax Wi-Fi heater keeps working exactly as it always has. You do not lose anything when a new generation launches.
02The Short Version

What the WT3 actually is.

The WT3 is the third generation of Wi-Fi thermostat built into Adax smart heaters. It is the brain inside models like the Adax Neo Wi-Fi and the Adax Clea glass heater: it connects the heater to your phone and your smart home.

Launched by Adax in 2025, the WT3 is faster than the version before it, uses less power, and adds hardware-level cybersecurity built to the standards coming into European law. It also widens the list of smart home platforms it works with, and it is designed for Matter, the new universal smart home standard. It runs over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on its own, with no separate hub or bridge box to buy.

03What The WT3 Brings

The everyday upgrades.

01

No hubs, no friction

The heater connects directly over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, so there is no separate bridge box to buy, wire in or keep updated. It works with Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Homey, FutureHome, Tibber and Home Assistant, which covers the fastest-growing smart home ecosystems.

02

Faster, and lighter on power

The WT3 runs on a new dual-core processor built for real-time response. It is quicker to react than the previous generation and draws less power in standby, and it supports over-the-air updates, so the heater can gain features and fixes over time without any hardware being replaced.

03

Matter compatibility, on the way

The WT3 is being made compatible with Matter, the new universal standard that lets one device work across every major smart home platform. Adax is building the Matter integration now. There is no confirmed release date yet, and we will update this guide the moment there is one.

04Why It Stands Apart

The two things that really set the WT3 apart.

Speed and voice control are nice. These two are the reasons the WT3 is a genuine step change, and the reasons it is built to still be the right choice years from now.

Security

Serious cybersecurity, from day one.

Security is built into the chip itself, with Secure Boot, flash encryption, hardware cryptography and a compliant random number generator, all aligned to the EN 18031 standard. This is what makes the WT3 ready for incoming EU rules such as the Cyber Resilience Act, and it is essential for Lot 20 and Eco label compliance.

Longevity

A future-proof platform.

The WT3 is designed to evolve with smart home standards, energy markets and new features, rather than being fixed at launch. In practice that means the heater you buy today is built to keep pace with what comes next, instead of being left behind.

05What Matter Means For You

Why everyone is asking about Matter.

Matter is a shared language for smart home devices, backed by Apple, Google, Amazon and Samsung. Once the WT3 supports it, here is what it unlocks.

One Language

Works everywhere.

A Matter thermostat connects seamlessly to Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, Home Assistant and Apple Home, so you are not locked into one brand’s app.

Lower Bills

Up to 20% less energy.

Matter includes an energy management feature that, when enabled, allows energy-saving modes and load balancing that can cut consumption by up to 20 percent.

Room By Room

Zonal heating.

Heat only the rooms you are using, and build smart heating scenes that respond to indoor and outdoor sensors and even the weather forecast, keeping comfort up and waste down.

01

Multi-admin control

Owners get full control, while guests or family can be given limited access. Service staff can be let in and out without handing over the keys to everything.

02

Security by design

Matter is built around secure communication, so your heating sits inside a protected framework rather than an open one.

06Works With Your Smart Home

The platforms it speaks to today.

Straight out of the box, with no hub, the WT3 connects to:

Google HomeAmazon AlexaHomeyFutureHomeTibberHome AssistantOpen APIMatter (coming soon)

Plus open API access

On top of the big-name platforms, the WT3 offers open API access. That means developers, energy suppliers and smart home systems can connect to the heaters directly and build their own integrations, instead of waiting for an official app to add support. It is exactly what lets services like Tibber and Home Assistant talk to Adax heating in the first place, and it keeps the door open to energy-tariff automation, building management systems and custom setups that have not been built yet. For installers and businesses it makes the WT3 far easier to design into a wider smart building, and for homeowners it is a promise that the heating will keep gaining new connections over time.

07Common Questions

Putting the questions to bed.

Which generation do I have?

Check the heater’s app or model listing, or give us a call on 01325 717899 with your model and we will tell you. As a rule of thumb: heaters bought around 2016 to 2019 are Generation 1, those from 2020 onward are Generation 2 (WT2), and the newest 2025 models use Generation 3 (WT3).

I have a Gen 1 or Gen 2 heater. Does it still work?

Yes, completely. The generation refers to the Wi-Fi control platform, and older heaters carry on working with their app and integrations exactly as before. A newer generation launching does not switch anything off.

Do I need a hub or a bridge?

No. The WT3 connects directly over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. There is no separate hub, bridge or gateway box to buy, which was one of the biggest barriers to smart heating on older systems.

When can I get Matter?

Adax is building Matter support into the WT3 now. There is no confirmed release date yet. Rather than guess, we will update this guide as soon as Adax gives a firm date.

Is it secure?

Yes. The WT3 has security built into the chip itself, including Secure Boot and flash encryption, aligned to the EN 18031 standard and ready for the EU Cyber Resilience Act. It is one of the biggest differences over the earlier generations.

Will it work with Apple Home?

Apple Home support comes through Matter. Once Adax releases Matter for the WT3, it will sit alongside Google Home, Alexa and the other platforms it already supports today.
